Remove an image from the background 

• Using the quick selection tool select most of the image. 
• Use the alt button to deselect the parts you dont want. 

•  while the image is selected press command J  
• hide the background layer.

• create a new layer, and use the paint bucket tool  to select a color of your choice

• add gaussian blur to soften.
